Four-year-old kindergarten is open to any child in the Menomonie School District who is four years old on or before September 1st. The program is offered in a half-day format, morning or afternoon, at area partnering community sites.
The community-based approach differs from surrounding school districts because the 4K centers are located in area childcare and preschool facililties rather than in elementary schools. Currently, there are ten sites partnering with our district and include: ABC'S Daycare & Preschool, Bouncin' Babies & Kool Kids, Hand in Hand Preschool, Little Sprouts Academy, Menomonie CESA 11 Head Start, Monkey Business Early Educational Community, St. Joseph's School, Sunshine Learning Center, UW-Stout Child and Family Study Center, and one 4K classroom is located at the Menomonie High School.
Each site has one or more teachers licensed in Early Childhood by the Wisconsin Department of Instruction. They help to build children's social and emotional skills, direct children's learning through facilitated play, helping them to acqurie knowledge in content areas such as literacy, math, science, the arts and technology. Instruction focuses on ways that preschool children learn best.
Registration materials are available at the Administrative Service Center (ASC), 215 Pine Avenue NE; in the attachment below; and at each of the 4K partnering sites. All enrollment materials can only be accepted at the ASC . To learn more about the 4K program, enroll your child, or should you have any other questions, please contact Carla Klingfus at (715) 232-1642, extension 11066.
