NEW BOARD MEMBER ORIENTATION

The district administrator and incumbent board members shall provide orientation to new board members on an ongoing basis to help inform them about the board's roles, responsibilities, functions, policies and procedures, and current issues facing the district. The board president may designate a board member to provide mentor assistance to new members.

In the interim between the primary election and the spring election, candidates shall be invited to observe all meetings of the board and shall receive all nonconfidential reports and communications normally sent to board members.

In the interim between election and actual assumption of office, new members shall be furnished with selected materials, including:

  1. Board policy manual.
  2. District annual reports and financial reports.
  3. Becoming a Better Board Member.
  4. Roberts Rules of Order - Newly Revised.
  5. Other pertinent materials published by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards

A schedule of appointments with administrators and school visits shall be arranged bythe district administrator to afford an opportunity for new members to discuss and observe specific functions at different levels of district operation.
