Technology has exploded the idea of what is means to research, learn, and use information. The availability of information at our fingertips not only means access to ideas at a moment’s notice, but it can also be carried in our pockets. Technology has reframed how we learn and, in some ways, what we learn.
Several weeks ago I received a couple of questions from citizens about the new Common Core Standards. It was surprising because in the past, aside from parents, people have not been all that interested in the curricular frameworks for subject matter. Loving the depths of curriculum and how it is structured has generally been viewed as a “nerdy” aspect of education and typically left to teachers.
It is usually quiet in my house at 4:30 a.m. unless, of course, it is snowing! I would be happy to be done with snow days for 2013. You can be sure everyone is thinking “enough already” when even the children beg me not to call a snow day!
